Why Should You Read Daily? 13 Powerful Benefits of Reading Books

At present, I am reading 3 books. On Writing Well by William Zinsser (2nd Time), Palkhiwala, the Court Room Genius by Soli Sorabjee, and A Practical Approach to the science of Ayurveda by Acharya Balkrishna, (2nd time). I keep referring to Tools of Titan by Tim Ferriss.

There is a famous saying, ANY BOOK WORTH READING IS WORTH READING AT LEAST TWICE.

Earlier this year I completed reading On Writing by Stephen King, Don’t Make Me Think by Steve Krug, & This is Marketing by Seth Godin.

Next on agenda Deep Nutrition by Catherine Shanahan and Shree Mahavir Katha published by the University of Gujarat.

A friend of mine borrowed (& returned) Thinking, Fast & Slow by Daniel Kahneman and biography of Swami Vivekananda

Last month I gifted my young nephew The Icarus Deception: How High Will You Fly?   by Seth Godin

I have downloaded the Kindle book sample of Self Renewal by John Gardener, The Moment of Lift by Melinda Gates, & Shut Your Ego Says by James McCrae. And a few more.

So many books !!

Why are so many famous people recommend book reading? What are the benefit of reading books? Here I present 13 incredible benefits.

  1. Enrich Knowledge

Good books enhance our knowledge. We know many things by reading books.

Yes, books are reservoirs of knowledge. Many knowledgeable people have written books and we get to know about the thinking and insight of the world around us with their books,

The matter doesn’t end just by knowing. Our mind uses the knowledge which is acquired. We learn to see different perspectives. The mind opens up. With an open mind, we can experience and deal with the world in a better way.

This is obvious. We learn many new words by reading a book. I find Kindle a better choice only because of its in-built dictionary facility.  You can immediately know the meaning of the word.

Reading so many authors in some way enhances our skill of writing. Whether you read to learn writing or not, your brain is learning tacitly.

Reading reduces sleep and induces sleep.

Reading helps put your consciousness on another plane, which will induce sleep. Moving into a fictional world eases the tension and helps them relax better. That is one of the best ways to get a restful sleep.

A person with reading habits is never lonely.  A book can be with you for hours and makes you experience a different world.  You never feel alone and lonely.

With a Kindle app on my mobile, I now don’t mind long waiting hours, especially at dispensaries where waiting is inevitable.  Long waiting time is no longer time-wasting, its tie well spent with reading books.
